About St. Gerosa School

A legacy of excellence, innovation, and service since 1964

Our Story

It was the felt need of the people of the locality about 45 years ago for a high school in Jeppu, as many girls after completing their elementary education in Infant Mary’s Hr. Pry. School at Jeppu and other neighbourhood schools, discontinued their studies for want of high school in the vicinity. Realizing this need of the weaker sections of the society, inclusive of those form the orphanage, the Sisters of Infant Mary’s Convent, Jeppu ventured into the difficult task of starting a high school. Thus in the year 1964, after obtaining due permission from the concerned education department, St. Gerosa Girls’ High School was started by opening 8th standard in Kannada medium with 84 girls on roll and in subsequent years standards 9 and 10. The first batch of SSLC students appeared for the Public examination in March 1967.

Students from various higher primary schools of the neighbourhood rushed for admissions to St. Gerosa Girls’ High School. In 1968 the three floor school building was completed, solemnly blessed and was inaugurated. In the year 1972, the first batch of English medium girls who have passed their 7th Std. District level Examination, enrolled themselves in the High School, adding a parallel English medium section to the existing aided Kannada medium High School. There was steady growth in the number of students in the high school.

Growth & Evolution

As the craze to study in English medium increased, there was a steady decline in the number of students who opted for Kannada medium. In order to strengthen these classes, boys were admitted to Kannada medium high school from 2007.

At present Sr. Emma Aranha is heading the High School. She is doing her best in meeting the challenges of the present time and the school continues to see the welfare of the students under her able administration and effective guidance.

A band of committed 50 teaching and Non Teaching staff of St. Gerosa High School aim at the integral growth of their charges, offering value- based education so that they may be guided by the right values, grow as persons for others, willing to take risk, maintaining a balance of positive outlook and thus transform themselves and become agents of the transformation of society.

Our Legacy Today

The school is recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka and prepares the students for S.S.L.C exam. Every year we have been blessed with better results in S.S.L.C exam. The school management is very concerned about the financial problems of the students. So, a good number of students get concessions in their fees. Free text books, note books, bus pass and also school uniforms are given to the deserving students. Daily mid-day meal is served to the students.
As a Minority institution, our aim is not only the intellectual, cultural or physical development but also the formation of character of the students by inculcating sound moral principles, so that they may grow up as good Children of God and responsible citizens of the country.
